The Chippewa Falls Senior High School Athletic Booster Club (Booster Club) is raising funds to build a 22,000 square foot fitness center. There are three main components to the fitness center’s design: turf, weight room, and mezzanine with cardio equipment.
The design of the turf space is truly multifunctional which allows almost all activities the space to accommodate needs. Regarding academic use of the fitness center, physical education classes can use the space for exercise aligned to curriculum standards and for the development of a healthy lifestyle. The Music Department can use the space for Marching Band practice, as there is a need to accommodate this larger group as well as practice sessions for individual sections. Due to the design of the fitness center, multiple groups can use the space at the same time to accommodate a safe, effective learning environment.
A larger weight room in the fitness center will offer additional stations for safety, better instructional approaches, and program development for all levels. By allowing more students to be able to take Physical Education classes, Chippewa Falls High School can continue to work with individuals to develop a healthy lifestyle they can foster into their futures. With a larger weight room, students with specific physical disabilities can access the weight room, alongside their peers, without having to remove equipment to another location in order to accommodate the needs for students. By enlarging the weight room to include additional training stations, sessions that are currently offered for students before, during, and after school can be on the forefront of training standards and propel students forward.
The mezzanine design is adaptable and accommodating to all students and a variety of activities. Students with disabilities will be able to access the cardio equipment, as well as the wide open area for a multitude of individualized fitness activities. In order to best serve all students with equitable access to viable curriculum and equipment, the mezzanine is an important piece to the fitness center. To fully utilize the mezzanine, there is a vision for drop down batting cages, pitching areas, wrestling mats, yoga mats, and rehabilitation exercise equipment, among the many other endless possibilities.
With adherence to the current District facility usage policy, the community will have access to many areas of the fitness center. If the space is available, a community group will be able to reserve the area for their use.
